Featuring the “Star Motif” common throughout this historic African-American cemetery, on the grounds of the old Gould Plantation at the Barbour River, this marker is likely that of a child of Martha Thorpe, who is buried adjacent to this plot.
Gould Cemetery is important partly because so many ex-slaves can be found here, but also for the Star headstones, which I believe were all done by one artisan. Further research would be fascinating…
