Blackbeard Creek is actually a network of tidal creeks and inlets located west of St. Catherine’s Sound. This view was made near the Yellow Bluff area of Colonel’s Island.

    Brian,

Blackbeard Creek lies between Sapelo Island and Blackbeard Island, to the southeast of Colonel’s Island and south of St. Catherine’s Island. It’s right beside the sea shore, rather than a bit towards Midway (as Colonel’s Island is).

If you’re looking at Google maps, EVERY creek in coastal Georgia is named “Blackbeard Creek.” I’m not sure where this picture was taken, but it’s not on Blackbeard Creek.

    • You’re right about that use of Blackbeard Creek for all coastal creeks; I’ve tried to find local names on better maps. If you know which creek it might be, could you please clarify.

Ashley Creek and Yellow Bluff Creek are on the east side, while Vandyke Creek is on the southeast side of the island. Jones Creek, Gould Creek, and Sunbury Creek are on the north side. Dickenson Creek is on the northwest side. Carrs Neck Creek is on the west side. The North Newport River and Timmons River are on the south side of Colonel’s Island. I read these off an older topographic map provided online by MyTopo.com.
