From 1975-2004, Charlie Teeple’s in Thunderbolt was one of Savannah’s favorite seafood restaurants. Steamed crabs and oysters were among their most popular offerings. This building wasn’t the restaurant, which was located on the nearby Wilmington River, but rather Charlie’s retail store, where fresh boiled crabs remained in demand. I’m not sure when it closed, but it’s been abandoned for quite some time.
Did the owner sell out? Why are they not there any longer ?
both of the owners have passed away.

I often went to the restaurant to eat the steamed oysters when I was in Savannah on business back in the 80’s. Is it still there?
It has closed.
Nice to see the old picture of Charles business, like I mentioned before he was my cousin, and we all went to the school in Thunderbolt which is now
the Historical Center, Charles use to spend his summers at his Grandparents
home which was across the road from my home. Even though he was crippled he use to swim like a fish as we all lived on the Herb River. Thanks for remembering him. Jackie Monson Purdy, Union City, CA
The building on Victory Drive is being remodeled as of this month. Don’t know what is going in there but they are doing a lot of work. Will stop in and see if I can find out what is going on.
Please update if you do. I saw them with heavy equipment last week.
Nice to see the article about Charles. Like I mentioned before he was my 3rd.cousin. We all went to Thunderbolt School, I have a photo of all of the class, I believe it was 4-5th grade. Have most of the names on the back. We are all standing on the front steps. My father who was born in 1904 and all his siblings went there too. One of the teachers was Theodora Fleming and she was still teaching there and was one of my teachers and I was born in 1935. Just thought I would share. Jackie Monson Purdy, Union City,
