Eliza Ann Richardson, Georgia Pioneer

Sunbury Cemetery

February 1820 – 23 October 1831

The headstone of the youthful Eliza Ann, daughter of Edmund and Elizabeth Richardson, is one of the most interesting in Sunbury Cemetery, with its willow-and-urn motif reminiscent of earlier gravesites at nearby Midway Church.

Reverend Jacob H. Dunham, Georgia Pioneer

Sunbury Cemetery

February 1774 – 25 September 1832

Reverend Dunham was a prominent early Georgia Baptist minister. Several different resources online give incorrect dates for Reverend Dunham: one lists his birthdate as 1764 and another gives his date of death as 1882, both incorrect.

Medway River

Sunbury, Georgia

The Medway is one of numerous tidal rivers along the Georgia coast. Formed by the confluence of the Laurel View, Belfast, and Tivoli rivers, it’s only 11 miles long, and makes up part of the border between Liberty and Bryan counties. It was named for the Medway River in Kent, England, from which some of the settlers of old Sunbury hailed.
